Pick our new Sunday comic

If you haven’t heard, cartoonist Berkeley Breathed is ending his Opus strip on Sunday, Nov. 2. He is not offering reruns so we have a hole to fill on our Sunday comic page. We have eight strips that run daily, but not Sunday: Gasoline Alley,
Funky Winkerbean, Baldo, Baby Blues, Cathy, Rex Morgan, Mallard Fillmore, Lio (runs in classified pages).
I’d like to hear from readers on their preference to replace Opus. Send me your top three choices in order. You can post them on this blog or send an e-mail to rtomaselli@record-journal.com. We have to make a decision quickly, so Saturday is the deadline.

Now regarding Mallard Fillmore, I wish you'd either drop it entirely or relegate it to the editorial page (or classifieds). Were it clever or funny or well drawn, that would be one thing. It isn't any of those.

Those comics are all terribly unfunny. Why don't you fill it with the horrible "Family Circus"? Let's grimace in pain for the duration of 'Bil' (who doesn't deserve the other L) Keane's arduous and inane panels of 'Little Billy's' tracks across the neighborhood...wow...he's so mischievous, going after the cat and the neighbor's pies for the thousandth time. What crime sent that poor family to that bizarre purgatory of cruel tranquility? Is the father blind? I've never seen his eyes and his glasses are completely white. Don't get me started on cartoon character eyes and pupil size. It's some sort of conspiracy. No sense trying to save that mess. Why not just find a funny obituary every Sunday? Most old people probably laugh more reading that section more anyway, finding out who they just beat. What sport do you play? Oh, I just live...really long.
And what kind of name is Berkeley Breathed? It's as stupid as Richard Lion or Rock Thomas.

Listen, we may all disagree on the next President and Vice President, but surely we can all agree that Lio should be the new Sunday comic strip! It is the funniest comic to grace the classified section in ages. It is time to put Lio where he belongs.
